A Story About Cake

I really love cake, all kinds of cake. When we were kids, my mom often made cake for us- five growing up children with great appetite. We were not rich at that time (not that we are know) so mama had to spare some time of her busy schedule as a working mom to bake us her delicious cake.
My sister and i really enjoyed watching Mama prepared the cake batter. When we were a little bit older, we managed to help her preparing the pan and held the mixer. It always amazed me to see the mix of eggs and sugar slowly turned into white thick batter. Mama then slowly added the flour, mixed it with slow speed. Last, she would pour the melted margarine/butter into the batter and slowly stirred it with a spatula. Finally the cake batter was poured into a baking pan and ready to be baked in an oven. We would wait patiently until the cake fully baked and enthusiastically breathed in the delicious smell coming out from the oven.

Few years passed, mama didn’t bake as often anymore and later on, she completely stopped baking due to her busier  schedule. But I continued to love cake.
When i was in college i lived in a rented room far away from my hometown. My parents sent enough money every month, but still i had to carefully split the money for room rent, daily expenses, and textbooks. So when i had some extra money in my pocket sometime i would go the bakery store, buy a small piece of cake, enjoyed it all by myself.
I graduated, got a job, got married, had more money, and certainly could buy bigger slice, more delicious and expensive cake. Whuahhh…it’s so wonderful entering a bakery store with some money in my purse. I went to bakery store every week for some time until i realized i never got the same delicacy and satisfaction as the ones that i got from my mama homemade cakes. Cakes with reasonable prices couldn’t offer great taste while cakes with great taste came with unreasonably expensive prices. But i really love cakes and longed so much to be able to enjoy them without feeling guilty for spending so much money just for a piece of cake. So what to do? “Bake it yourself!”, i told my self. That way i could control the ingredients, make any cakes i want, anytime, anywhere. So…let’s bake!
